It is known to be a safe area that is filled with arts, culture, festivals and many modern urban amenities. Many people have set their sights on Georgetown because of its affordable real estate and spacious homes. This neighbourhood spans over 24,000 square kilometres and is located just north of Milton and just west of Brampton.
The name Georgetown comes from George Kennedy, a man who settled in the area in the year 1821. During this time, Kennedy built different mills including a sawmill, grist mill and woollen mill, which is what began the economic development in that area. Throughout the years, settlers started to reside in Georgetown as the number of local jobs slowly increased.
By the 1950’s, Rex Heslop, a well-known developer at the time, came to this area with plans to expand the community with large residential, commercial and industrial development and by the 1960’s, Georgetown reached a population of 10,000 people.
By 1961, the community had built its own hospital which still exists today and on January 1, 1974 Georgetown was established into the regional town of Halton Hills. Today, Georgetown is a thriving community with many employment opportunities and growth coming to the area.
Based on the 2016 census data, the population of Georgetown was 42,123 while the largest age group of people living in the area was between 15-64 years old. This means that many young people are flocking to this community to find a home where they can build a life for themselves and their families.
The average annual household income during this time was $130,179. Additionally, 86% of people living in the area are homeowners and 14% are tenants. In 2016, the average price for homes in Georgetown was $635,000 while in 2020 the average price for a home is $890,000, an increase of 71% in the last 4 years.
Based on a MoneySense report, Georgetown is ranked as the number one neighbourhood to buy a home in Halton Region, this is largely due to its affordability, it’s annual increase in real estate prices and it’s close proximity to Downtown Toronto and the rest of the GTA.

Currently, Georgetown is made up of many low-rise homes including detached homes, semis and townhomes. However, as this community continues to grow, we can expect many more condominiums complexes coming to this area.
New Condo Developments close to the Georgetown GO Station
Georgetown is filled with many boutique shops, unique restaurants and eateries, medical services, spas and salons and professional services including accounting firms, banks and law offices. In Downtown Georgetown many of these urban amenities can be found in buildings that were built over 100 years ago. The rich history and old architecture is what makes this community unique. Many people enjoy living in a small-town environment that has a feeling of inclusivity and sense of community. Georgetown is also known for its natural amenities and recreational activities including trails, golf courses, parks and conservation areas. The Credit River and the Niagara Escarpment both run through this area which gives residents the chance to unwind and experience the outdoors. In addition to all of these incredible amenities, Georgetown is known for some of its landmarks including the Georgetown Hospital and Health Care Centre. This hospital was built in 1961 and still serves its community and surrounding communities. Sitting on 17-acres of land, this local hospital serves all of Halton Region as well as larger parts of Peel Region. There are also many malls in this community including Georgetown Mall and Toronto Premium Outlets, a recently built outdoor shopping centre that offers many retail stores with premium brands and restaurants. Known as being a family-friendly community, Georgetown has many local schools nearby as well as many after-school programs, summer camps, recreational centres, libraries and community centres. One of the most well-known learning centres is The Royal Academy of Arts and Education which provides students with an in-depth learning experience of music, art, tutoring, workshops and camps.
As for transit, the Georgetown GO Station is one of the main railway stations in the area. This station runs on the Kitchener GO Line and the Via Rail Toronto-Sarnia corridor. The Kitchener GO corridor recently underwent an expansion project which now stops at many landmarks on the west end of the city including Wilfrid Laurier University, the University of Guelph and Bramalea Shopping Centre before connecting to Union Station.
This rail line will also soon connect to the future Eglinton Crosstown LRT. After the completion of the Kitchener GO Expansion in 2019, commuters now enjoy two-way, all day service which means trains run frequently every 15 minutes or less, both ways. There is also a 20% reduction in commute times which means commuters living in Georgetown and working in other major parts of the GTA can reach their destination quicker than ever before.
