Vaughan is one of nine municipalities in York Region, alongside Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, King, Markham, Newmarket, Richmond Hill and Whitchurch-Stouffville. Getting around is a big part of daily life here. GO Transit trains run between Union Station in Toronto and stations in Vaughan named Rutherford Road and Maple. The Vaughan Metropolitan Centre is a terminus station on the TTC Yonge-University line at 3150 Highway 7. The City of Vaughan says three subway stations opened in December 2017: Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, Highway 407 and Pioneer Village. Viva bus rapid transit runs along Highway 7, and the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre subway station connects to it.

Schools in Vaughan are run by several boards. The York Region District School Board serves nine municipalities in York Region, and Vaughan is one of them. Secondary school boundaries in Vaughan include Emily Carr S.S., Maple H.S., Thornhill S.S., Tommy Douglas S.S., Westmount CI and Woodbridge College. The York Catholic District School Board and the York Region District School Board are building a shared elementary school in the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, with Ontario government funding. The York Region District School Board also lists a proposed Village Parkway Elementary School, due to open in September 2029, with a child care centre. School boundaries can change, so confirm the school for any specific address with the boards directly, or contact us for help.

For green space and health care, the City of Vaughan describes North Maple Regional Park, a 900-acre park, as one of its major city-building projects. The Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital is described by the City as Canada's first smart hospital. The Vaughan Healthcare Precinct sits at the northwest quadrant of Major Mackenzie Drive and Jane Street and is planned as a health and wellness community anchored by the new Mackenzie Health Hospital.
